Stem Cells

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been shown to significantly increase the concentration of circulating stem cells within the body.

Because stem cells are often considered the body’s raw materials, they have the remarkable potential to develop into a number of different cell types. These cells serve as the body’s primary internal repair system and have the ability to replenish and regenerate the body from the effects of aging and disease.

By increasing the oxygen levels in blood plasma, stem cells were shown to significantly multiply and mobilize.

Clinical studies have demonstrated HBOT’s positive therapeutic influence on stem cells with the following results:

  • Activates nitric oxide synthase type 3

  • Proliferates  and mobilizes bone marrow-derived stem cells

  • Improves engraftment & differentiation of several progenitor cell types in organs such as the spleen, bone marrow, brain, peripheral nerve, pancreas, cartilage & heart

  • Increases colony-forming cells

  • Stimulation of stromal-derived growth factor

  • Promotion in endothelial growth factor-2 for angiogenesis

  • Increases CD34 expression and pluripotent stem cells

As a result of this positive influence of HBOT on stem cells, the body is more able to heal from disease or injury, grow and repair damaged tissue, promote organ functionality, ease diabetic symptoms, and promote neurogenesis.
